Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are interested in signing Giovanni Simeone in the summer transfer window, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Italian publication have claimed that Arsenal are competing with Juventus for the signature of the 29-year-old Argentina international striker.

The report has claimed that the son of Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone is available for €15 million (£12.80 million).

Simeone spent the 2021-22 season on loan at Hellas Verona from Cagliari.

Verona have the option to make the transfer permanent.

Would Giovanni Simeone make Arsenal better?

In our view, Giovanni Simeone would be a good signing for Arsenal in the summer transfer window, but manager Mikel Arteta cannot consider him as the leading player upfront.

Simeone is a good striker, but he is not among the ‘elite’ and needs to be more consistent as well.

The Argentine scored 17 goals and gave five assists in Serie A this past season.

Simeone scored six goals in the league in 2020-21 and 12 goals in Serie A in 2019-20.

Arsenal need to sign at least two strikers in the summer transfer window, even if Eddie Nketiah puts pen to paper on a new deal.

Simeone has the potential to get better, if Arsenal are to seriously challenge for the Premier League top four next season, then they need someone more prolific.
