CalcioMercato report Erik Ten Hag is considering a move to bring Inter Milan defender Denzel Dumfries to Manchester United – and it could stop Tottenham from signing Alessandro Bastoni in the coming weeks.

Spurs have been strongly looking at a move to sign 23-year-old Inter star Bastoni. Tottenham are said to be ‘confident’ to sign the Italy international, but might have to wait for Inter to sign Gleison Bremer from Torino.

Indeed, it is claimed Inter need to sell to ease their financial issues. Ivan Perisic has already left the club for Spurs – and Bastoni could follow. But the latest report says Ten Hag and Manchester United could throw a spanner in the works.

CM claim that Manchester United and Ten Hag are battling Bayern Munich in a move for Netherlands star Dumfries. The report says that if Dumfries does go, then it would save Inter having to cash in on Bastoni.

Manchester United need a right-back. Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been up and down at Old Trafford, but does not offer enough going forward. Diego Dalot is hardly the long-term answer at Manchester United.

Dumfries would be a superb signing for United. He is the kind of attacking full-back United fans have come to expect. But it would be a huge blow to Spurs in the race for Bastoni, who is likely to cost £51.5million.

Spurs, while having an in-form Ben Davies, need competition at the very least on the left of their back-three and Bastoni is perfect. Losing out, thanks to Ten Hag’s United, would be a bitter pill to swallow.
