CBS Sports report that RedBull Salzburg are desperate to keep Brenden Aaronson this month, after a £15million offer from Leeds. They are keen to keep him for at least another 12 months, as his value continues to rise.

Aaronson, 21, has been superb for Salzburg since joining the club from MLS outfit Philadelphia Union in January 2021. Already playing 51 times, he has had a hand in 22 goals from midfield – understandably, catching Leeds’ eye.

The Athletic report that Leeds have made a bid of £15million, rejected by Salzburg – but the two clubs remain in talks. Aaronson has spoken in the past of it being a dream to move to the Premier League in his career.

CBS detail Salzburg’s stance on Aaronson leaving. They claim ‘it is expected’ he will move to a bigger league, as he continues to shine. But they want to keep him until after the 2022 Qatar World Cup; they feel his value will rise.

Salzburg stance on Aaronson: Leeds need to find a compromise

£15million for Aaronson has the potential to be a massive bargain – but clearly, Salzburg are holding out for more from Leeds. The Whites will know that his value is only going to increase beyond this window.

So, the two clubs need to come to a compromise. While Salzburg will not want to sell, it is hypothetical that his value might increase after the World Cup. If Leeds increase their offer to north of £20million, it is tempting.

Surely, Salzburg will have to admit defeat and cash in now if it does beyond £20million – a sizeable fee for a club in Austrian football. Whether they remain firm and wait for another 12 months, remains to be seen.
