Winnall left Sheffield Wednesday for Derby County on loan last week.

Winnall moved to Derby on a season-long loan in the final minutes of the summer transfer window – a deal which saw Rams midfielder Jacob Butterfield move in the opposite direction.

But it would appear Wednesday are keeping their options open where Winnall is concerned, after head coach Carlos Carvalhal claimed it was Derby and not they who initiated the striker’s exit.
Discussing the situation on BBC Radio Sheffield yesterday, the Portuguese explained: “First: we needed a midfielder and we don’t have money to spend.
“Second situation: Derby needed an attacker. They have a lot of midfielders, we have a lot of attackers.
“It was not us that chose Winnall. Derby requested Winnall, we requested Butterfield.”
Derby manager Gary Rowett
Winnall’s move to Derby sees him reunited with Rams boss Gary Rowett, who was number 2 to Paul Peschisolido when the striker was on loan at Burton Albion six years ago.
The former Barnsley player has scored four goals in 18 appearances for Wednesday, although only 11 of those outings came as a starter.
