Antonio Conte is reportedly gearing up for one heck of a clearout at Tottenham Hotspur this summer.
Tottenham are on the brink of getting back into the Champions League, leading Arsenal by two points ahead of Sunday’s final day – a visit to relegated Norwich City.
But unfortunately, quite a lot of Spurs players won’t be seeing the light of day in this competition next season.
Who is Tottenham selling this summer?
According to The Times, the no-nonsense Italian manager has decided that the Lilywhites can do without eight players on their books right now.
The Times name checks five of those players: Steven Bergwijn, Sergio Reguilon, Emerson Royal, Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso.
The latter two are on loan at Lyon and Villarreal respectively, so it wouldn’t be a massive surprise for Tottenham fans if they leave, while Reguilon and Emerson are players who Conte has been reportedly considering axing for most of the year.
Bergwijn, however, is someone who some Spurs supporters might’ve wanted to see given a proper chance next season.
The Netherlands international, who won Goal of the Year in the club’s end-of-season awards last weekend, has only started one Premier League game since Conte replaced Nuno Espirito Santo but his injury-time double against Leicester City earlier in the year illustrates that he can be a gamechanger.
Conte, however, has seemingly made his mind up on the Dutchman but honestly, the feeling appears to be mutual.
Bergwijn himself told Dutch media earlier in May that he didn’t play regularly and would probably be leaving North London during the summer months, so this is one player who the Tottenham manager won’t have to coax out of the door.
