Watford manager Roy Hodgson was reportedly key in securing former Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere a permanent move to Danish Superliga side AGF.

According to the Athletic, the veteran coach put in a good word for the former England international to AGF assistant manager Dave Reddington, who worked under Hodgson during his time at Crystal Palace.

As per the report, Reddington contacted Wilshere over a potential deal earlier in the month, with the 30-year-old yesterday signing a short-term deal with the Aarhus-based club for the remainder of the season, with the midfielder taking the no. 10 shirt for AGF.

Wilshere had been a free agent since the start of the season, with the Emirates Stadium favourite being invited by Arsenal to train with the club whilst he and his representatives look for a new permanent home.

And that club has now been found in AGF, yet Hodgson being one of the key factors behind the move for Wilshere is a surprising update given Arsenal’s troubles in beating the 74-year-old manager in recent years.

As per Transfermarkt, Hodgson has tormented the Gunners plenty over the past few seasons, with the former England manager only losing once to Arsenal in his past six meetings with the north London club.

Arsenal fans should praise Hodgson after Wilshere move to AGF

Hodgson has long garnered a reputation as one of the nicest figures in English football, and this latest move in Wilshere’s career to AGF speaks volumes about the Watford manager despite his record against Arsenal in recent years.

The former Liverpool boss is clearly a huge fan of Wilshere and believes the midfielder deserves a chance at a top-flight club, and Hodgson’s involvement in the 30-year-old’s move to AGF should earn the manager plenty of respect from Arsenal supporters.
