FC Barcelona are reportedly willing to accept just €20m (£16m) for right-back Sergino Dest, with Arsenal interested in the defender and now AS Roma entering the competition.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Jose Mourinho’s side are keen on the USA international, with AS Monaco and former club Ajax also interested in Dest, who has endured a difficult season with Barcelona.

Whilst the defender did start over the weekend and was lauded by Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez, Dest’s future looks uncertain, with the right-back linked with a move to Arsenal in the summer as reported by Marca and now with the likes of Roma.

With the defender having an outrageous €400m (£337m) release clause as per Barcelona’s official website, the club’s reported valuation for Dest shows that the club could well be interested in offloading the youngster.

Indeed, at 21-years-old, Dest is still very young and could be sold by Barcelona to raise funds to deal with their financial problems, which are reported to be over the €1bn range. Yet Arsenal will now, more than likely, pass up on the defender in the summer.

Roma could swoop in for Dest given Arsenal’s right-back situation

Arsenal hit the lottery in the summer with Takehiro Tomiyasu, who has been one of the signings of the season and could be the Gunners starting right-back for years to come, and it is because of this that Roma might win the race for Dest.

Whilst Arsenal do need a backup for Tomiyasu in the summer with Cedric Soares likely to depart north London, Mikel Arteta will likely sign a player who can act as an understudy to the Japanese international, just as Nuno Tavares has for Kieran Tierney this season.

With that in mind, this might rule out a move for Dest even with his £16m price tag, with the American simply too good to act second-fiddle to Tomiyasu and other clubs, such as Roma, now interested in the Barcelona defender.
