Arsenal and Aston Villa are both targeting Marcus Thuram as a result of his stunning performances for Borussia Monchengladbach.

That is according to Milan Live in Italy, who made the claim when stating that AC Milan are also interested in the France international.

Now, Bild in Germany have shared an update.

Arsenal or Aston Villa could secure a bargain

Well, those at Borussia Monchengladbach are set to miss out on millions.

Bild believe Thuram is causing his market value to rise with some excellent displays this season, but his contract situations means the Bundesliga side are unable to take full advantage.

The Borussia Monchengladbach No.10 sees his contract expire at the end of the season, and his market value stands at just €30m (£26m) as we approach the January transfer window.

Thuram has scored 12 goals in 16 appearances this season – while also providing four assists – and at the age of just 25, his market value would surely be in excess of £50m if he had a few more years on his contract.

That represents unfortunate timing for Borussia Monchengladbach, but an exciting opportunity for Mikel Arteta or Unai Emery to take full advantage.

Milan Live added that Crystal Palace are also interested in Thuram.

Arsenal & Aston Villa must bid for Thuram

In our view, both Arteta and Emery would be foolish not to jump at this opportunity.

Thuram – who has been compared to Thierry Henry by Arsene Wenger – is in the form of his life, and is among the top goalscorers in Europe so far this season.

At the age of just 25, he is arguably yet to hit the peak of his powers, so a £26m investment this winter could easily double – or even triple – if the Frenchman translates his form into the Premier League.

Even if he doesn’t perform too well, the Gunners or the Villans would surely make back at least £20m on Thuram, given his age and profile as a senior France international.

Keep an eye on this situation, as Borussia Monchengladbach will surely sell their talisman in January – if not, they will lose him for nothing in the summer.
