Brighton & Hove Albion are said to be ‘desperate’ to keep Lewis Dunk, amid rumours Tottenham Hotspur want him, by the Daily Mirror.

The Sun claimed that Jose Mourinho wanted to sign Dunk for Tottenham over the weekend.

But Brighton are set to put up a fight in a bid to keep hold of their prized centre-back.

Albion are determined to keep Dunk, who is valued at around £40 million (Mirror), as Graham Potter still sees him as a key starter.

That price-tag could well put him out of Tottenham’s reach, as they are only thought to have a limited budget.

Jose Mourinho does appear to want a central defensive signing this summer though, and Dunk would certainly add steel to Tottenham’s backline.

The Brighton man has become one of the most reliable defenders in the Premier League, with his commitment and professionalism always standing out.

Indeed, former Tottenham striker Darren Bent is a big fan of the central defender, as he said to TalkSPORT (16/08/20 at 2:55 pm) that the 28-year-old was ‘brilliant’.

Tottenham already have the likes of Davinson Sanchez, Eric Dier and Toby Alderweireld who can play at centre-back, but Mourinho’s first-choice pairing is yet to become clear.

Dier is clearly rated by Mourinho but he wasn’t entirely rock solid last season, Alderweireld is ageing and Sanchez still has a tendency to make some rash decisions.

Dunk could add further competitions for places if he is to sign for Tottenham, but it seems that Mourinho’s side could face a real battle to get a deal over the line if they do push for him, due to Brighton’s desire to keep hold of him.
