Darren Bent has labelled Lewis Dunk as a ‘brilliant’ defender and compared the reported Tottenham target to Gary Cahill, as he told talkSPORT (16/08/20 at 2:55 pm).

The Sun recently claimed that Tottenham are keen on Dunk but it seems as though Chelsea will beat their London rivals to his signature.

Spurs need more depth and quality added to their backline after a quite average Premier League campaign, which saw stalwart, Jan Vertonghen, leave the club when the season was eventually concluded.

Former Spurs striker Bent was told about interest in Dunk and he stated that the Brighton man should have ‘a lot more’ England caps to his name.

“I like Lewis Dunk,” Bent told TalkSport. “I think he should have a lot more [England] caps. I think defensively he is brilliant. He would put his head in there. He’s old school.

“You could say that [he’s the type of defender you would hate to play against]. He reminds me of Gary Cahill and he won the absolute lot.”

There’s no doubt that Dunk would be a worthy addition to any side competing in Europe because of his experience and his old school ways.

Many of the top teams have ball-playing centre-backs at their disposal, but they need that old fashioned element to compliment them at the heart of their defence and Dunk provides that in abundance.

Jose Mourinho would love his services in North London because someone like Davinson Sanchez and Eric Dier would thrive alongside him.

Not only that, but he would also add much-needed depth and quality to a Spurs backline that needs fixing.
