Premier League giants Newcastle United are reportedly ‘close’ to signing Fenerbahce star Ferdi Kadioglu in a deal potentially worth around £17 million according to reports coming out of Turkey.

Now, before we begin, it’s worth pointing out that – when it comes to speculation put forward from the Turkish press – we’d usually advise against getting carried away.

Six weeks ago, reports emerged suggesting that Crystal Palace had completed the signing of Danish defender Victor Nelsson from Galatasaray. Flash forward to mid-May, and confirmation has been far from forthcoming.

So, Newcastle United fans, we recommend keeping your cards close to your chest amid reports suggesting that Ferdi Kadioglu is on his way to St James’ Park.

Is Ferdi Kadioglu really heading to Newcastle United?

Kadioglu, Aksam say, is ‘close to completing’ a potential £17 million move to Tyneside. Newcastle have allegedly sent scouts to watch the one-time Derby County target. Newcastle, Aksam add, believe Kadioglu could add some depth a thin squad which could struggle to balance domestic and European commitments in 2023/24.

It’s difficult to argue with that point, at least.

Newcastle have one of the smallest rosters in the Premier League. Eddie Howe may struggle to emulate the success of this season against the backdrop of a hectic, three-game-a-week schedule. Kadioglu’s versatility, then, could come in very handy.

The 23-year-old Turkey international has made most of his 43 appearances this term at right-back. But he can also play on the left and further up the pitch in midfield too.

A £17 million fee, meanwhile, is unlikely to put off a Newcastle side backed by Saudi Arabian billionaires. Both Howe and sporting director Dan Ashworth appear to be building a Newcastle side upon a platform of young, hungry, hard-running talent like Kadioglu.

But until these rumours are being replicated by more reliable sources, then it’s probably best to take the ‘Kadioglu to Newcastle’ claims with a pinch of salt. Or perhaps an entire handful, for that matter.
