According to The Chronicle, Celtic are interested in a summer deal for Newcastle United goalkeeper Freddie Woodman.
It’s claimed that Woodman is facing another loan deal away from Newcastle after spending the last two seasons with Swansea City.
Woodman may have impressed with Swansea, but he would still be third-choice at Newcastle behind Martin Dubravka and Karl Darlow.
That isn’t good enough for Woodman, who deserves to be first-choice somewhere – and that’s why both Celtic and Southampton are keen.
Celtic saw Vasilis Barkas struggle last season, whilst neither Alex McCarthy nor Fraser Forster have established themselves as first-choice at Southampton.
Ironically, Woodman could emulate Forster by making the move from Newcastle to Celtic, and he already has Scottish experience with Kilmarnock and Aberdeen.

The 24-year-old needs to find a settled home, and Newcastle may be able to use this to their advantage even if they aren’t overly keen on selling Woodman.
The Magpies want to sign Celtic defender Kristoffer Ajer according to The Daily Mail, and throwing Woodman into a deal for the centre back could work out for all parties.
