Celtic have reportedly been handed a boost in their pursuit to sign Brazilian midfielder Vinicius Souza, with Turkish side Fenerbahce now looking at other options in the market.
According to Brazilian publication Colunda do Fla, Fenerbahce have been put off by Lommel’s £8m asking price for Souza, with Celtic now seemingly the frontrunners for the 23-year-old this summer, with Ange Postecoglou keen on bringing the South American to Parkhead in the coming weeks.
As per the report, Fenerbahce were the first side to make an offer for Souza, a £4m bid that was rejected by Lommel, who are sticking to their £8m asking price for their star midfielder, a fee that Celtic could be tempted to match if they are intent on signing the midfielder.
With central midfield a priority for Postecoglou this summer, Souza would be an excellent signing for Celtic, and with Fenerbahce now out of the race for the 23-year-old, the Hoops should be pulling off all the stops to land the talented Belgian Pro League star.
Hailed as ‘incredible’ by former Belgian international Steven Defour, Souza is a player who could elevate Celtic’s midfield to a whole new level, and with the Scottish champions competing in the UEFA Champions League next season, the Brazilian himself could be tempted with a move.
Indeed, Souza is also a target for the likes of Ajax and Benfica, as per the Scottish Sun, yet with Celtic likely to hand the midfielder a starring role next season, the Rio de Janerio-born star could favour a move to Glasgow given how important he could become for Postecoglou’s side.
Celtic should do all the can to sign Souza as soon as possible

Celtic will return to the Champions League group stage next season for the first time in what feels like forever, and if Postecoglou’s side are to make a real impact in Europe’s elite club competition, signing the likes of Souza is a brilliant sign of intent from the Scottish side.
Indeed, the Brazilian has proved he is ready for a major step up in his career, and Celtic could be an ideal next move for Souza if he is to continue his fascinating career in Europe.
