Celtic want Vinicius Souza and are hoping to land the Brazilian midfielder after he excelled over in Belgium.

The Bhoys have been linked with a host of names this summer and have now secured Cameron Carter-Vickers permanently.

Celtic want Vinicius Souza

The Daily Mail reported this weekend that Celtic have joined the race to sign Souza.

Football Soctland added that Postecoglou sees Souza as being perfect for Celtic and the Bhoys want to make a deal happen.

Fenerbahce, Club Brugge and Bologna are also interested and Souza is expected to go out on loan again next season.

Souza is owned by Belgian side Lommel but spent this past season on loan at Mechelen.

Lommel are owned by the City Football Group and that could be vital in Celtic’s chase of Souza.

Ange Postecoglou managed a City Football Group team in Yokohama F Marinos and is highly regarded inside the CFG operation.

Additionally, Celtic’s new head of recruitment Mark Lawwell had a key role in the City Football Group before heading to Glasgow.

Lawwell will surely be aware of Souza and clearly Postecoglou too having been identified by the City Football Group as a top talent.

Souza, 22, came through the ranks at Flamengo before joining Lommel in 2020.

Souza racked up 35 appearances for Mechelen last season, picking up two goals and one assist.

The Brazilian mostly played as a holding midfielder and his defensive displays have been hailed as ‘incredible’ by Steven Defour, who was blown away by his ball-winning ability.

Defour hold Het Laatste Nieuws that he thinks the Premier League should be the next step for Souza.

Yet it’s Celtic who could now swoop in to sign him, giving Postecoglou a talented anchor man to help replace Bitton.
