According to the Daily Record, Celtic value Kristoffer Ajer at double the price Newcastle United want to pay for him.
It’s claimed that Newcastle have scouted Ajer on a number of occasions and now hope to sign him for around £8million.
The Magpies seemingly believe that Ajer’s price tag should be so cheap because he’s entering the final year of his Celtic contract.
Norwich City are keen too, but Newcastle are ready to make their move quickly in order to win the race for one of Steve Bruce’s top targets.
The problem is that Celtic allegedly view Ajer as a £16million player, twice the price of Newcastle’s proposed offer.
That fee could be beyond Newcastle this summer, as they rarely have a big budget to work with under Mike Ashley.
Missing out on Ajer would be frustrating though. The Norwegian is young, tall, quick, capable of playing out from the back and could earn Newcastle major profit in the future.
Additionally, The Scottish Daily Mail reported earlier this month that Ajer has his heart set on a move to Newcastle, believing the first-team football on offer is ideal for him.
If a player with Ajer’s talent and potential wants to join Newcastle, the Magpies can’t afford to let them slip through the net – but that asking price could now see them miss out.
