According to the Scottish Daily Mail (04/05, p87), Celtic defender Kristoffer Ajer now has his mind set on a move to Newcastle United.
It’s claimed that Norwich want to sign Ajer this summer, possibly in a double deal alongside Bhoys teammate Ryan Christie.
That would be quite the ambitious double swoop for the newly-promoted Canaries, but it looks like Ajer won’t be heading to Carrow Road this summer.
Instead, Ajer wants to join Newcastle, believing the first-team football on offer at St James’ Park would be ideal for his development.
Newcastle sent scouts to watch Ajer in action against Rangers on Sunday, and a cash offer from the Magpies is thought to be ‘imminent’ now after that visit to Glasgow.
That would be quite the coup for Newcastle, given that AC Milan have held a long-standing interest in the Norwegian talent.

With question marks over Fabian Schar’s long-term future, Ajer could slot in as a right-sided centre back if Steve Bruce continues with a three-man back line.
It’s unclear just how much Ajer would cost, but with just a year left on his Celtic deal, they may be under pressure to sell this summer for a bargain price – which is just how Newcastle and Mike Ashley like it.
