Celtic have been heavily linked with a move for Georgios Giakoumakis this month.
The VVV-Venlo hitman looks to be on the move after scoring 29 goals in 33 games for the Dutch club last season.
But the Greek was unable to prevent relegation from the Eredivisie and obviously a move away is on the cards.
A £3 million move to Celtic has been mooted but Inside Futbol is now reporting that the Hoops could sign the 26-year-old on loan.
With Werder Bremen officially out of race, the path looks relatively clear for Ange Postecoglou in Glasgow.
Inside Futbol reported earlier this week that the Celtic boss and Giakoumakis were in ‘constant contact’ with one another about a move to Parkhead.
According to Deich Stube in Germany, the Scottish Premiership giants have offered the goal machine a £12,000-a-week contract, but that was when a permanent deal was on the cards and it remains to be seen if that remains the case now that a loan move is being discussed.
Good company
Whether it’s a long-term deal or a loan to begin with, Celtic have to get it done.
Say what you want about Dutch football but Luis Suarez and Memphis Depay among many more made their bones in the Eredivisie en route to shining in a stronger European league.
And although nobody is saying that Giakoumakis is the next Suarez, 29 goals in 33 games last term just cannot be ignored and Postecoglou – if he’s genuinely keen – needs to get it done.
