Celtic might end up signing Georgios Giakoumakis yet, if a new report is true.

The Hoops have been heavily linked with a move to sign the VVV-Venlo hitman during the summer transfer window.

Despite being relegated from the Eredivisie, the Greek marksman did his bit and then-some by scoring 29 goals in 33 games for the club last season.

Over the past week it looked as if the 26-year-old was heading to Werder Bremen in Germany.

But Celtic have been boosted by the fact that his move to the Bundesliga has collapsed.

According to Inside Futbol, the player is now keen to sign for Celtic and is in ‘constant contact’ with Bhoys boss Ange Postecoglou about it.

The report adds that Postecoglou himself is a big fan of the player and it’ll be interesting to see if a deal can be ironed out between now and the closure of the summer transfer window.

Good chance

This seems like it has a very good chance of happening.

That’s because if a move to Celtic is back on, a lot of the finer details have already been agreed from before Bremen entered in the race.

For instance, it has been reported that the Scottish Premiership giants have agreed the £3 million fee and consented to pay the striker’s £12,000-a-week salary demands.

He was already close to a move to Parkhead at one stage this summer and that, in theory, should enable Celtic to pick up where they left off.

No doubt there’s still a bit to do before Postecoglou gets his man, but it looks promising.
