According to the Daily Mail (print edition, March 5th, page 86), Celtic are closing in on the signing of Wigan Athletic wonderkid Kyle Joseph.

The 19-year-old is also wanted by Rangers, as revealed by The Sun.

However, it looks like the manager-less Hoops have won the race for the 19-year-old prodigy, who is already a valued first-teamer at the DW Stadium.

The teenager is seriously in-demand. The Mirror wrote that Arsenal also want to sign him, while The Sun claimed that Tottenham were keen as well.

In that respect, Celtic have pulled off a major coup, if the Daily Mail’s news is to be trusted.

Joseph has made 16 appearances for Wigan’s first-team in total, which is actually more than the seven he made for their Under-18 side.

It seems he was fast-tracked into the first-team, in that respect.

In total, he’s scored 11 goals in 23 games, along with one assist. By the sounds of it, he’s also a dream to play with upfront.

Wigan striker Kal Naismith spoke to the club’s official website about what it’s like to play with the 6-cap Scotland Under-19 international in attack.

The Latics frontman said: “I really enjoyed it up there with young Kyle Joseph. He’ll be a top player, a really, really good player.

“He has a great appetite for the game and a great attitude – I enjoy playing with him, he did a lot of work for me in what was my first game back after not having a lot of training.”

By all accounts, Celtic appear to be closing in on a gem.

If he turns out to be a success at Celtic Park, it will be all the more enjoyable for supporters knowing that they beat arch-rivals Rangers to his services.
