According to a brand-new report, Casemiro has told Neymar Jr. to accept a transfer to Manchester United, rejecting Newcastle United in the process.

This claim surfaced on L’Equipe, as it was initially reported in May that PIF in particular were interested in signing the PSG superstar.

However, Casemiro could play a trump card for Manchester United in securing a transfer for international teammate Neymar, leaving Newcastle United in the dust.

So far, it seems the jury is out on the 31-year-old’s potential switch to Eddie Howe’s side, at least as per several pundits.

For instance, Ally McCoist simply said that the ageing attacker would ‘not be a good signing’ for the Magpies. Even Jose Enrique branded the reported interest from the club as a ‘massive mistake.’

If Newcastle remain persistent in their efforts to complete an audacious transfer for Neymar, Casemiro could crush their dreams, as he is convincing his compatriot to make the move to Old Trafford.

While the Champions League winner still has two years left on his current deal, it seems like an exit for him from PSG looks likely.

Newcastle should not be overly concerned

If Casemiro ends up being successful and Manchester United win the transfer battle to sign Neymar, Newcastle should not be too fussed.

While the former Barcelona technician remains one of the best players in the world, his injury record over the past couple of years remains a major red flag.

Despite Neymar almost being a guarantee to deliver in the Premier League, his lack of availability could really hurt any club that he joins.

Furthermore, Newcastle’s project has been burgeoning since the takeover and they will likely have a smart backup plan in place.

As a result, as much of a dream as it would be for the St. James’ Park faithful to witness Neymar in the flesh, the bigger picture is still immensely exciting.
