Leeds United continue to be linked with midfielder Tommaso Pobega as Calciomercato offer an update on his AC Milan future.

Milan News reported in February that Leeds had been attracted Pobega. His displays on loan at Spezia had put him on the radar, with Leicester also keen.

This latest report states that Leeds have ‘tested the ground’ with a move for Pobega, with Leeds one of two clubs leading the race.

Eintracht Frankfurt are also keen, and they have great relations with Milan. They swapped Ante Rebic for Andre Silva in 2019.

What does Bielsa think?

Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa is believed to be a big fan of Pobega, but much will depend on Milan with his Spezia loan now over.

They’re set to lose Gianluigi Donnarumma, and subsequently view Pobega as a player who can slot into the squad as a homegrown player.

Pobega would join Matteo Gabbia and Davide Calabria as a homegrown talent, and that’s why Milan are thinking so strongly about keeping him.

Spezia do have a purchase clause, but Milan then have a buy-back clause in that deal, meaning Pobega’s future is a little complex.

How did Pobega perform last season?

The 21-year-old hit six goals and three assists in 20 games for Spezia, showing his quality in Italy’s top flight.

At 6ft 2in tall, Pobega is an athletic midfielder who can offer plenty up and down the pitch – exactly what Bielsa would like.

With potential to develop, Pobega could be a star. Leeds must now wait to see what Spezia and Milan decide this summer.
