Everton and West Ham United are both interested in handing midfielder Ross Barkley an escape route from Chelsea.

That’s according to 90Min, who claim that West Ham boss David Moyes wants a reunion with his former Everton ace if the Hammers can’t land Jesse Lingard.

That’s somewhat ironic, as Everton themselves want to sign Lingard are now eyeing up a return for Barkley.

Barkley, 27, hasn’t lived up to his early potential and is now back at Chelsea after Aston Villa chose not to turn his loan move permanent.

West Ham are believed to have made a first move for Barkley by initiating contact for his signature, but the Hammers are far from alone in the race.

Everton are thought to be keen on signing Barkley too, whilst Newcastle United are even in the race with Chelsea surely having no plans for him moving forward.

Everton let Barkley leave the club for Chelsea in January 2018, and fans didn’t exactly like the way he left the club, booing him on his return to the club over a year later.

Rafael Benitez wanted Barkley in a return to Newcastle last summer, so it’s no great shock that he wants Barkley again, this time at Everton.

Barkley surely won’t be playing for Chelsea this coming season, and whilst a move to West Ham does make sense, the chance for a controversial return to Everton is now a possibility.
