Tottenham have now been joined by Bayern Munich in the race to sign Illan Meslier from Leeds in 2023.

What’s the story?

Well, it was Phil Hay of The Athletic who revealed that Spurs want to sign the France Under-21 international from Leeds, as the north Londoners start to plan for life after Hugo Lloris.

Now, Bayern Munich are interested in Meslier after Manuel Neuer broke his leg – according to Media Foot in France.

The French news outlet believe Bayern Munich are not only looking to find cover for the Germany international while he is out, but – like Tottenham – they are also thinking about the heir to their current No.1’s throne.

Media Foot add that Manchester United and Chelsea are also keen to sign Meslier – who Leeds signed for just £5m from Lorient in 2020.

The Frenchman’s agent – Yvon Pouliquen – has already been contacted by Bayern Munich, as Julian Nagelsmann enquires to find out how much Leeds would want for their No.1 in 2023.

Meslier, who earns £22,000-a-week at Elland Road, has made 14 Premier League appearances for Leeds this season, conceding 26 goals and keeping two clean sheets.

Bayern Munich & Tottenham face huge Meslier fee

In our view, Leeds will demand a significant amount for their precocious wonderkid.

Meslier is contracted to the Whites until June 2026, which puts Leeds in a very strong negotiating position amid interest from some of Europe’s wealthiest clubs.

If Leeds end up suffering relegation to the Championship this season, the 22-year-old may ask to leave, in our view at least, although that is the only way we can envisage the likes of Bayern Munich, Tottenham, Manchester United or Chelsea signing him for a cut-price fee.

As things stand, Leeds find themselves 15th in the Premier League, two points off the relegation zone.

Be sure to keep an eye on Meslier’s situation, as Europe’s elite clubs attempt to sign him.
