TuttoMercatoWeb claim Atletico Madrid have staged more talks with Tottenham on Monday as they look to strike a loan-to-buy deal for Emerson Royal. The talks between the two clubs have been described as ‘strong’.
Atletico Madrid are taking a keen look at some of Tottenham’s players this summer. Reports also said on Monday that Japhet Tanganga was a target for Diego Simeone alongside Emerson – as is midfielder Giovani Lo Celso.

Emerson, 23, endured a tricky start to his life at Tottenham in his first season. Joining the club from Barcelona, Emerson did not prove to fans why he cost the club a fee in the region of £25million. He did play 41 times.
Matt Doherty was first choice, ahead of Emerson towards the end of the season before the Ireland man took a knock. Spurs are looking at Djed Spence and while talks have been going on for some time, he could still come in.
Atletico have staged more talks with Tottenham to strike Emerson deal
This is an interesting one. Emerson, right now, is Antonio Conte’s first choice right wing-back and he did improve towards the end of the season. But he is only first choice due to Doherty’s injury, and no other option.
Costing a fair old whack, and given it was his first season in the Premier League at just 23 – Emerson might have been given the chance to improve. But Conte is ruthless. Spence is likely to be ahead of him in the pecking order.
Should Spurs let him go on a loan-to-buy deal? The advantage is that Emerson could impress at Atleti, and return to Spurs refreshed. But an initial loan means Spurs have to go another season without seeing some cash.
