Defender Brad Burton is about to leave Aston Villa on a free transfer and could join Premier League rivals Burnley, as reported by LancsLive.

While the likes of Mungo Bridge, Jaden Philogene-Bidace and Carney Chukwuemeka appear to have a future in claret and blue, no shortage of talented teenagers will leave Aston Villa in the next few weeks.

The Birmingham Mail reports Jack Clarke, Callum Rowe, Ben Guy and others won’t be handed new contracts. News that 19-year-old Charlie Farr would be released, meanwhile, sent a ripple of shock through Bodymoor Heath.

Burton, at least, appears to have a new club lined up already.

LancsLive reports the right-back, who has captained Aston Villa at U23 level, is on trial at Burnley and even featured during the recent Premier League 2 clash with Leeds United.

The Lancashire outfit are giving serious consideration to handing Burton a fresh start at Turf Moor when he becomes a free agent.

But, while Burton prepares to bid farewell, another talented young right-back could be promoted to Dean Smith’s first-team squad.

Kaine Kesler was one of the stand-out performers during January’s absurd FA Cup third round clash with Liverpool and, with Ahmed Elmohamady expected to leave, he could emerge as back-up option to Matty Cash next term.
