The striker’s injury has increased Aston Villa’s need to sign a new striker during the January transfer window.
According to the Daily Mirror’s live transfer feed (January 31st 2017; 12:40pm), Aston Villa’s need to sign a new striker on deadline day has increased after Gabby Agbonlahor sustained a significant injury.
Will Aston Villa be pleased to see the back of Jordan Ayew?
The Mirror’s live feed (12:36pm) reported that the Villans had agreed a deal to sign Brentford striker Scott Hogan for a fee that could ultimately rise to £15 million.
And, with the hours ticking down, they will be hoping that the final stages of the move go exactly to plan as Steve Bruce appears to be in desperate need of additional options up front.
Gabriel Agbonlahor of Aston Villa
Ross McCormack has fallen out with Bruce and looks as if he could be on his way out of Villa Park today with Nottingham Forest making an enquiry, according to the Mail, while Jordan Ayew is closing in on a move to Swansea City (via The Sun).
With Jonathan Kodjia only just returning from the Africa Cup of Nations, Bruce may have been relying on Agbonlahor to play a role in the coming weeks while Hogan finds his feet – provided that the move goes through.

However, the Mirror are reporting that Agbonlahor has torn a muscle in his leg and is set to be sidelined for several weeks.
While the 30-year-old has been a long way short of his best in recent times, he has been much more useful this term than he was last year.
Should Aston Villa focus energy on Jordan Rhodes or Scott Hogan?
And while the Hogan deal going through will mean that his injury may not have that great an impact, failing to complete the move could leave Bruce with a problem over the coming weeks.
