Aston Villa have been linked with both Jordan Rhodes and Scott Hogan during this window.

Aston Villa go into transfer deadline day arguably still needing to bolster their striker options if they hope to push for a place in the Championship play-offs. And it appears that two names may be at the top of Steve Bruce’s list.

Three strikers Aston Villa could sign on transfer deadline day

According to the Daily Mirror’s live transfer feed (31st January 2017; 06:58), Villa are likely to use the money made from the sales of Ashley Westwood and Jordan Ayew to fund an improved bid for Jordan Rhodes.

Villa have previously offered £6 million plus add-ons for the Middlesbrough man, who the Premier League side value at £10 million (via Birmingham Mail), but the Mirror hints that a better offer could be on the cards should Bruce be able to move the players on.

However, is Rhodes actually the striker that Villa fans want?

It appears on fan forum Villa Talk that it is actually their interest in Scott Hogan that has got several fans excited.

According to the Daily Mail, Villa have made a £9 million offer for the Brentford striker, and some supporters appear to be convinced that the club’s energy should be spent trying to tie that deal up rather than trying to bring Rhodes to Villa Park.

Though Rhodes arguably comes with a greater reputation, it is not difficult to see why some fans would rather Hogan arrived before the deadline.

The 24-year-old has been fantastic for the Bees this season, scoring 14 times in 25 Championship games, as well as seven in seven during the previous campaign.

Meanwhile, Rhodes has scored just six in 24 games for Aitor Karanka’s side and is yet to open his account following their promotion to the Premier League, so, while he was undoubtedly one of the division’s most lethal marksmen at Blackburn, it would still be a gamble to sign him.

Hogan, on the other hand, has shown the determination to succeed in every division he has played at – until 2013, he was playing non-league football – and that determination could be so useful as Villa look to make a late surge for a place in the top six.
