According to Calciomercato, Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur are leading the race for Leeds United target Mikkel Damsgaard, a player who is supposedly stronger than Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka.
What’s the story?
Calciomercato have reported that Premier League duo Tottenham and Villa are ‘in first place’ to secure the services of Damsgaard from Sampdoria in the summer transfer window.
AC Milan, AS Roma and Juventus are also interested in signing the 21-year-old winger.
Sampdoria are willing to sell the Denmark international this summer, but the Italian club want €30-€35 million (£25.52-£29.78m) as transfer fee.
What about Leeds United?
Calciomercato does not mention Leeds in their report, but we know that Marcelo Bielsa’s side are actively looking to sign the youngster.
How?
Because Il Bianconero reported on June 27 that Leeds are still interested in the youngster and are trying to sign the winger.
We covered the report here on HITC Sport.
Then another report in the Italian media report this month claimed that Tottenham and Leeds head coach Bielsa remain keen on the 21-year-old, who played as an attacking midfielder, forward and winger for Sampdoria last season.

Down to the wire
There is a very good chance that the race for Damsgaard could go down to the wire.
Described by Sampdoria President Massimo Ferrero as a player who is “stronger than Xhaka” of Arsenal in Football Italia earlier this month, the Dane scored two goals and gave four assists in 18 Serie A starts last season.
Damsgaard, who played well for Denmark at Euro 2020 this summer, would be a very good signing for any club, not just for now, but for years to come.
