According to Sport, Wolves target Riqui Puig is likely to leave Barcelona if Franck Kessie – who is of interest to Aston Villa – joins the Spanish giants.

What’s the story?

Well, Aston Villa could now stop Wolves from landing Puig this summer.

Sport believe Puig – who earns £64,000-a-week – is likely to depart the Camp Nou if Xavi gets his hands on Kessie, who becomes a free agent in June.

However, if Aston Villa win the race to sign the Ivory Coast international, then it could see Puig end up staying in Catalonia.

According to Il Milanista, the Villans have made an offer to Kessie, who looks unlikely to extend his contract with AC Milan.

Interestingly, Aston Villa are said to have made the best proposal to the 25-year-old, which speaks volumes about how determined Steven Gerrard is to sign him.

It was Sport who claimed Wolves want to sign Puig.

So far this season, Kessie has scored six goals in 29 appearances.

If the Villans enter the 2022/23 campaign with a player of Kessie’s quality in their ranks, while Wolves miss out on Puig, it would be a good way to get bragging rights in the Midlands before a ball is kicked.

Last season, the Ivorian scored 14 goals from midfield, while also providing six assists.

Kessie is a player of real quality, and he has more than enough talent to really make a name for himself in the Premier League.

Should Gerrard be able to pair him alongside the likes of John McGinn and Douglas Luiz, the Villans would undoubtedly have a midfield capable of reaching Europe.

Keep an eye on this saga, as Barcelona could have a big influence on Wolves and Aston Villa’s business this summer.
