Arsenal are reportedly keen on signing Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic, a player Lionel Messi rates highly.

According to Defensa Central, the Serbian international is on the radar for the Gunners, with the report stating that Mikel Arteta is ‘very interested’ in signing the 23-year-old attacker. Jovic is being viewed as a potential replacement for Alexandre Lacazette at Arsenal.

The Serbian international joined Madrid in 2019 for £52m. However, things have never kicked off for Jovic since leaving Eintracht Frankfurt for the Spanish capital. The striker returned to the Bundesliga side on loan last campaign.

However, the attacker bagged just four goals in 18 league games for the German club. In his last spell with Frankfurt, Jovic scored an impressive 27 goals in all competitions as Adi Hutter’s side made it to the UEFA Europa League semi-finals.

Whilst Jovic’s progression has stalled at Madrid, there’s no denying that the attacker is a superbly gifted player. After all, Messi once labelled the striker as ‘magical’ as per Sports Bible.

And with Madrid keen to offload the attacker, Arsenal could well become Jovic’s new home. The striker fits the criteria of what Arteta and Edu Gaspar have been looking for in terms of new signings.

Jovic has proven his quality before with Frankfurt. And whilst his career has come to a standstill in Spain, there is still a player there who could develop into one of Europe’s top strikers. And Arsenal could be the club the Serbian to regain his true form.

Jovic could work well under Arteta at Arsenal. And with Lacazette, as well as Eddie Nketiah, likely to leave north London in the next 12 months, the striker will find himself with plenty of opportunities to play regular football at a Premier League level.
