As per a report by SPORT, Arsenal target Memphis Depay will meet Xavi next week to discuss his future at Barcelona.

Recently, TuttoJuve claimed that Mikel Arteta’s side were keen on launching a bid for Depay in January.

It has also been reported by SPORT that the Premier League leaders could complete a deal to sign the 28-year-old for just £1.7 million, as his contract expires in the summer.

With the Dutch international capable of operating as a striker, it only makes sense why the Gunners are keen on his signature.

After all, their talismanic No.9 Gabriel Jesus succumbed to a 3-month knee injury, as per Brazilian outlet sportv.

Mikel Arteta clarified that as things stand, there is “no clear timeframe” about when Jesus will return to full fitness (via GOAL reporter Charles Watts).

With Arsenal finding themselves in a rare position of being title contenders, this news has come as a major blow.

Arsenal target Memphis Depay will have a meeting about his future with Xavi next week

As per a report by SPORT, Arsenal target Memphis Depay is set to hold a meeting with Barcelona boss Xavi about his future next week.

This season, Depay has started a mere two games for the Blaugrana in La Liga, missing a majority of matches due to a thigh injury.

With Robert Lewandowski dominating the goalscoring charts since joining the club, as well as Ousmane Dembele and Raphinha emerging as Xavi’s go-to front 3, it is unlikely that the ex-Man United star gets regular game time anytime soon.

Ultimately, the meeting could signal Depay’s exit, which is a positive development from an Arsenal perspective.

Should Arsenal sign the Dutchman as a Gabriel Jesus plan B?

The answer is yes.

While the scepticism surrounding Memphis Depay is understandable, his displays at the World Cup were a reminder that there is still a player in him.

Furthermore, Arsenal cannot afford to put all their eggs in the Eddie Nketiah-shaped basket, considering his lack of experience when it comes to leading the line for a title-challenging side.

On the other hand, Depay has done so for both PSV and Lyon.

Desperate times call for desperate measures, which should prompt Arsenal into hoping that Memphis Depay decides to leave Barcelona in favour of a return to the Premier League after his meeting with Xavi.
