Arsenal central defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos has his heart set on a move to Real Betis, according to Estadio Deportivo.
The report in the Spanish news outlet has claimed that Sokratis is so keen on a move to Betis that he has turned down offers from Genoa and Fenerbahce.
However, Betis have financial issues and have to balance their books, and the La Liga outfit have decided not to pursue the Greece international central defender this month, who could now start looking at other clubs, according to the report.
This report in Estadio Deportivo comes following claims made in La Razon that Betis manager Manuel Pellegrini had personally asked the club to sign Sokratis.
In dilemma
Sokratis is not part of Arsenal’s Premier League and Europa League squad this season, and that is not going to change anytime soon.
The former Borussia Dortmund star is out of contract at the Gunners at the end of the season and will become a free agent then.
The dilemma for Sokratis now would be whether to find a club and forget about Betis or to stay at Arsenal for the rest of the season and then try to reach an agreement with the Spanish club in the summer of 2021.
