Arsenal are said to hold the strongest interest in Jules Kounde by ABC Sevilla

Arsenal and Chelsea are apparently the clubs who are most keen to sign the central defender, who could be available this summer.

Unfortunately for Arsenal, it seems that the Frenchman will be very expensive.

The report states that Kounde would cost any interested party over £50 million to buy, which may put him out of Arsenal’s price-range, unless they can reduce the costs of such a transfer.

However, Arsenal are still said to be the most interested club in signing him, which suggests they think that a deal is possible.

The Gunners believe that Kounde could be a ‘leader’ in defence for them, which is seen as a priority for them to sign.

Kounde actually admitted last week that he may have to leave Sevilla, in an interview with the Manchester Evening News.

Good buy

Arsenal have numerous defensive options, particularly at centre-back, but none have really emerged as the main man in defence.

Kounde could certainly do so, given his level of ability.

The 22-year-old is regarded as one of the very best defenders in Spain.

His arrival at Arsenal would signal the ambition of Mikel Arteta’s side, and add another exciting prospect to the Gunners’ squad.

But whether Arsenal would be willing to commit such a large chunk of their budget to signing one player remains to be seen.
