According to Marca, Arsenal and Newcastle must pay £34m if they want Marco Asensio, who has been offered to Tottenham.

What’s the story?

Well, both the Gunners and the Magpies are interested in bringing the Spain international to the Premier League.

However, Real Madrid are now demanding £34m for their No.11 – AC Milan are also said to be keen.

Asensio’s contract expires in June 2023, and he is still in discussions over a new deal at Real Madrid.

However, the 26-year-old wants a pay rise as a result of his efforts last season, in which he finished third-top scorer behind Karim Benzema and Vinicius Junior.

Asensio scored 12 goals in 42 appearances, while also providing two assists.

The Spaniard wants to renew his contract, although he is not prepared to do so for any price.

Interestingly, Marca claim that Asensio has ditched his lifelong agent – Horacio Gaggioli – for Jorge Mendes, a man known for getting transfers over the line.

Therefore, it seems the Real Madrid maestro is preparing himself for a move, if contract talks do not progress.

£34m Marco Asensio fee should interest Arsenal, Tottenham & Newcastle

In our view, the £34m fee for Asensio should be of interest to the Premier League trio.

Interestingly, Tottenham have been offered the chance to sign the Spaniard due to their strong links to Mendes, whereas it was Cuatro who revealed that Newcastle made contact with Real Madrid over a deal.

As aforesaid, Asensio finished as Real Madrid’s top scorer behind the freakish double act of Benzema and Vinicius Junior, which is not an easy thing to do while playing for the European champions.

Furthermore, at the age of just 26, the attacking midfielder is right in the midst of his prime, so Mikel Arteta, Antonio Conte or Eddie Howe would be getting good value for their £34m.

For context, Aston Villa paid £33m to sign Emiliano Buendia from Norwich, so if a three-time Champions League winner really is available for £34m, it would be a no-brainer to sign him.
