According to Cuatro, Newcastle have made contact with Real Madrid to ask about Marco Asensio, who is a target for Arsenal and Tottenham.

What’s the story?

Well, the 26-year-old seems likely to leave the Santiago Bernabeu this summer, as Carlo Ancelotti has only handed him 16 starts in La Liga this season.

Asensio wants more playing time, and with his contract set to expire in June 2023, it seems he will leave Real Madrid this summer.

It has been said that Real Madrid want £25m for the Spain international, and he is open to leaving Los Blancos.

Interestingly, that is significantly less than Asensio’s £414m release clause, which Real Madrid inserted into his contract back in September 2017.

Arsenal are said to be leading the race to sign the Real Madrid gem.

Cuatro add that AC Milan have actually gone the furthest in their hunt for the Spaniard, as they’ve informed him that his salary demands won’t be a problem.

Juventus have also been in touch with Real Madrid to ask about their No.11’s situation under Ancelotti.

So far this season, Asensio has scored 11 goals in 37 appearances, while also providing one assist.

Newcastle could make a statement at the expense of Arsenal and Tottenham

If Newcastle managed to win the race to sign Asensio, it would be a huge statement from Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi.

After all, the Real Madrid maestro is a two-time Champions League winner and a two-time La Liga champion, who has racked up 230 appearances for Los Blancos.

Nobody plays that many games for Real Madrid if they aren’t a special player, and Asensio is certainly one of those.

Therefore, if the Magpies signed him, just months after relegation looked to be a certainty, it would be a big statement from the new ownership.

Keep an eye on this interesting saga, as Asensio looks highly likely to leave the Spanish capital this summer.
