Arsenal are reportedly in talks to sell 26-year-old goalkeeper Alex Runarsson to Belgian side OH Leuven.

According to the Telegraph, Arsenal are in discussions with the Belgian Pro League club over the 10-cap Icelandic international.

Arsenal have been open to allowing Runarsson to leave the club since the transfer window opened.

Mikel Arteta signed Aaron Ramsdale from Sheffield United to compete with Bernd Leno for the number one spot. Whilst teenage keeper Arthur Okonkwo has been promoted to third-choice after signing his first professional deal with the Gunners.

Runarsson joined last summer to replace Emi Martinez as back-up keeper for Arsenal. However, the former Dijon shot-stopper has been poor since arriving in north London.

The keeper has faced criticism from fans and pundits for his sparse performances for the club. Runarsson had a horror show against Manchester City in the League Cup during a 4-1 loss for Arsenal.

Indeed, there were rumours that the keeper was close to moving to Turkey earlier in the window. But a move never took place. Arsenal will be hoping Runarsson can to Leuven before tonight’s deadline.

Indeed, Arteta has praised Runarsson in the past for his work rate as per Arsenal’s official website. But with the club going big on Ramsdale and Okonkwo looking like a promising talent, there’s no room in the squad for the Icelandic star.
