Report: Arsenal have had a bid rejected for a ‘world-class’ player

According to Goal, Arsenal have had a £30m bid rejected for Gabriel Jesus, but despite this setback, they’re still confident of getting a deal done.

Arsenal have been linked with Jesus for what seems like an eternity now. They’ve spoken to his agents, personal terms shouldn’t be an issue, and now, the Gunners just need to agree a fee with Manchester City.

£30m was Arsenal’s opening offer, but, perhaps understandably, City are hoping for more than that for a striker who has hit double figures in all competitions for five seasons running.

The Gunners will have to cough up a bit more cash to sign the ‘world-class’ striker, and there is a growing belief that a compromise will be reached.

City want £50m for Jesus, but it has to be said, that this number is a bit of a stretch for a second-choice striker who has just one year left on his contract.

However, City know full well that Arsenal are in desperate need of a new striker. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette have left, so the north Londoners need a new name to lead their line, and Jesus is reportedly their priority.

Arsenal have been known to attempt low-ball opening bids, just look at last summer’s Ben White saga which saw the Gunners submit umpteen bids for the Brighton defender before eventually deciding to match the Seagulls’ £50m asking price.

The striker reportedly wants his future to be resolved quickly, but given the gap in the asking price and Arsenal’s history of being sticklers in these types of negotiations, this could take some time yet.
