Kevin Campbell has claimed that the ‘world-class’ Gabriel Jesus ‘wants to come to Arsenal’ from Manchester City, as he told the Highbury Squad.

The Highbury legend added that Jesus wants to come to Arsenal because he ‘knows the manager’ Mikel Arteta and he can be the ‘main man’ for the Europa League-bound side.

Premier League champions, Manchester City, have added Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez to their ranks for next season.

That makes Jesus’ game time that more difficult, as there are suggestions that he is now looking for a transfer with Arsenal keen.

Campbell made it clear that if the Brazil international joins the club, then he will be an ‘upgrade’ on the squad.

“He (Arteta) wants Jesus in and Tielemans in,” said Campbell. “They are two upgrade on our squads straightaway.

“Manchester City want good money because he’s young, fit and he’s a Brazil international. You could say he’s world-class. He starts for Brazil.

“He’s the best pressing striker out there and that’s what Mikel Arteta needs – he’s one of the key pieces that we need.

“Jesus can go and play Champions League football. But he wants to come to Arsenal, one because he knows the manager, two because he knows the system and three, which is the most important thing, he wants to be the main man.”

JESUS PERFECT FOR ARSENAL

Given Jesus’ ability to play across the front three, drop into pockets, link-up play and his movement without the ball to open space for his teammates.

He then becomes a perfect signing for the Gunners, who desperately need that number nine for next season to knit everything together for their young and ever-progressing side.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang headed for the exit door in January and now Alexandre Lacazette has followed suit by joining Lyon upon the expiry of his contract this month.

That leaves Eddie Nketiah and at a push, Folarin Balogun, as Arsenal’s main strikers, and even those players themselves will tell you more proven forwards are needed this summer.
