According to the Evening Standard, Arsenal are expected to make another move to sign Danilo from Palmeiras in January.

What’s the story?

Well, the Gunners failed to sign the 21-year-old before the 11pm deadline on September 1st with Palmeiras reluctant to sell late on in the transfer window.

However, the Evening Standard believe Arsenal will have a far better chance of signing Danilo in January.

The north Londoners are expected to make another push for the South American, although the Evening Standard warn that other sides are also likely to make attempts to sign him.

Mikel Arteta and Edu – Director of Football at the Emirates Stadium – seemed desperate to sign a new midfielder following injuries to Mohamed Elneny and Thomas Partey.

Arsenal made three bids to sign Douglas Luiz from Aston Villa on deadline day, with the last offer worth £25m.

Interestingly, Sky Sports claim that Arsenal were “led to believe” the Brazil international would be available for £20m, so it appears somebody moved the goalposts as yesterday’s 11pm deadline approached.

The Evening Standard add that Danilo has a release clause worth £86m in his contract.

However, Arsenal are not expected to be required to meet that sum, with some sources claiming that £30m will be enough to sign the midfielder.

Danilo move could be vital for Arsenal

If the Gunners maintain their stunning form going into the January transfer window, a deal for Danilo – or another target – could make or break their season.

We have already seen in the past how a January arrival can provide a boost when Jesse Lingard was sent on loan to West Ham and breathed new life into the east Londoners.

The England international remarkably scored nine goals – and also provided four assists – in just 16 Premier League appearances to hand West Ham a place in the Europa League back in the 2020/21 season.

Amazingly, the Hammers finished just two points off the top four.

Therefore, if Arsenal remain top of the Premier League in January, a new arrival may be vital in helping Arteta’s side go the distance – especially with Europa League fixtures on the schedule.
