The Mirror claim Arsenal, Everton, Crystal Palace, Wolves and Brighton are all doing battle for Lens star Cheick Doucoure. It is believed the midfielder could cost as much as £18million, after a brilliant campaign in Ligue 1.

Doucoure, 22, has started 34 of Lens’ 38 Ligue 1 games this season – missing four only due to suspension. The Mali ace helped Lens finish in a lofty seventh, despite harboring pre-season expectations of a relegation scrap.

He is a player that has earned enormous praise for his array of passing, breaking the lines and being able to offer a screen in front of the defence. His teammate Seko Fofana is quoted as saying he is “one of the best”.

The Mirror reports that Doucoure’s form has not only impressed Fofana. Five Premier League clubs have also been impressed, in Arsenal, Everton, Wolves, Brighton and Palace. The Mirror say he could cost £18million.

The report claims that Doucoure is keen on leaving France this summer, and that the Premier League is his preferred landing spot. He is about to enter the last two years of his contract at French side Lens, in June.

Arsenal and Everton among clubs doing battle for Lens star Doucoure

Which club is best for Doucoure? Arsenal need a midfielder – even after Mo Elneny’s new deal. Albert Sambi Lokonga has struggled, while Thomas Partey and Granit Xhaka have been in and out of the side through injury.

Wolves need a midfielder with Ruben Neves being linked with an exit. Palace could be about to lose Conor Gallagher – with his loan from Chelsea ending. Everton could sell Allan. Brighton need a bit more depth.

So, with all clubs needing a player like Doucoure – his game time at any of the five would be large. Which club suits him best? Arsenal are the only one of the four in Europe. If the Gunners come calling, he should go.
