Arsenal have reportedly cooled down their interest in FC Barcelona keeper Neto, who the Catalan club are eager to sell.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the Gunners have poured cold water on talks with the La Liga side over the Brazilian keeper. Neto played just 12 times in all competitions last season for Barcelona, keeping six clean sheets.
Ronald Koeman’s side are in desperate financial problems, and virtually every first-team player is up for sale this summer.
As per Salary Sport, Neto earns a reported £55,000-a-week with Barcelona.
And Mikel Arteta is seemingly a fan of the former Valencia keeper. The Gunners have been linked with Neto for a good chunk of the summer transfer window as well as in January.
Moreover, Arsenal are also keen on the likes of Aaron Ramsdale and Sam Johnstone as per the Mirror.
A goalkeeper is a key target for Arteta this window. Bernd Leno’s current deal with the club expires in two years. Furthermore, there is a strong indication that the German international won’t sign a new contract with the north London side.
Indeed, the 29-year-old shot-stopper had some shaky moments with Arsenal last season that cost the north London side vital points. Namely his own goal against Everton in a 1-0 defeat at the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal are right to cool interest in Neto
Whilst Neto would have been a solid option for Arsenal as a backup keeper, the Brazilian would be a poor fit to take the number one spot at the club.
The keeper has hardly played regular first-team football since his 2019 move to Barcelona.
And whilst Neto would be a cheap alternative to the likes of Ramsdale and Johnstone, the 31-year-old shot-stopper is arguably the most unappealing option out of the three players.
