According to the London Evening Standard, Tottenham Hotspur are planning a major squad overhaul.
Indeed, Spurs are apparently putting no fewer than eight players on the market, and interestingly, three of those are midfielders – Harry Winks, Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso.
As you may imagine, if Spurs sell three midfielders they’ll look to bring someone in in that position, and Antonio Conte has already highlighted the type of player he wants.
According to this report, Conte is keen for Spurs to sign a player in the mould of Jorginho.
Of course, this is easier said than done. After all, the Italian midfielder finished third in the Ballon d’Or voting last year.
Jorginho isn’t just technically proficient either, he’s been described as a ‘big character’ in the past.
The Chelsea ace is one of the best midfield players in the world, so signing a player in that mould won’t be a straightforward task, and it will probably cost a lot of money.
However, luckily for Spurs, Fabio Paratici is the man in charge of transfers in north London, and if anyone is going to find a Jorginho-esque midfielder for Conte, it’s Paratici.
Spurs’ Sporting Director knows the Italian league like the back of his hand, and there probably isn’t a league in the world where you’re more likely to find Jorginho 2.0 than in Italy.
It remains to be seen who Spurs bring in, but it looks as though they’re going to be in the market for a press-resistant, tactically adept and creative midfielder this summer.
