It just might prove to be that Tottenham striker Harry Kane is the most-talked-about man during this summer’s transfer window.
Whilst £100 million has been bandied about in the media for his talents, it has been reported by the Manchester Evening News that those at the Etihad will walk away from any deal if Spurs don’t keep their expectations realistic.
It is said that the previously big-spending Premier League champions cannot be as free in the transfer market as they have been in recent times.
All of this will be music to the ears of Tottenham supporters because, whilst Daniel Levy makes a mess of their managerial hunt, those stubborn traits their chairman possesses might now come in handy.
It has been pointed out in the report that Man City have previously walked away from previous big-money deals, such as Alexis Sanchez and Harry Maguire.
And this highlights how they can do the same with Kane, who ended the recently concluded Premier League campaign as the top-scorer and assist-maker.
Whilst the report talks about those big-name deals that Man City have walked away from before, it needs to be remembered that they weren’t in such a situation, like they are now, where they need a number nine.
They may have won the Premier League title by constantly playing false nine’s last season, but they didn’t get over that Champions League line.
And with Sergio Aguero now out of the door, it’s obvious that if Kane replaces him then it increases their chances of lifting their first European Cup next season.
Nonetheless, if Man City do indeed want those in North London to keep their expectations of Kane realistic then they clearly haven’t come across Levy before because he is going to be far from that.
