Liverpool and Newcastle United are set to miss out on the signing of RB Salzburg striker Karim Adeyemi, with Borussia Dortmund set to win the race for the youngster.
According to Sky Germany, talks between the Bundesliga giants and the Austrian side are at an advanced stage, with only a base transfer fee to be agreed upon for Adeyemi to make the move to Dortmund.
As reported by Bild, Liverpool were leading the chase for Adeyemi in the later months of 2021, with Sport1 also claiming that Newcastle were interested in the German international, as well as Tottenham.
However, despite Premier League interest, Dortmund look set to sign Adeyemi this January, with the UEFA Europa League club likely to develop the youngster as the replacement for Erling Haaland, who looks likely to leave Germany in the summer.
With Bild reporting that Salzburg will accept £34m for the 20-year-old striker, Dortmund are shelling out a good chunk of money for Adeyemi, who has been a revelation in Austria this season as well as in Europe.
The attacker has bagged an impressive 18 goals in all competitions this season, with three of them coming in the UEFA Champions League. And for Jurgen Klopp’s side and Newcastle, they are missing out on a gem in Adeyemi, who is now bound for Dortmund.
Liverpool and Newcastle could regret letting Dortmund signing Adeyemi

The latest talent off the Salzburg production line, Adeyemi has the potential to become a superstar for both club and country, and for Liverpool and Newcastle, they could one day kick themselves for allowing Dortmund to sign the attacker.
Adeyemi has proven to be a menace at both a domestic level and in European competition, and for Dortmund, the striker could easily become the next star at the German club with Haaland set to leave this year.
