The Tottenham Hotspur-linked right-back Tomas Tavares intends to leave Benfica ‘to play in a more demanding league’, according to Record.
The Sunday Mirror last month claimed that Tottenham have been scouting Tavares ahead of a possible deal, but face competition from Atalanta.
Benfica are said to value the Portugal Under-21 international at around £9 million – despite his third-choice status.
And he, along with teammates Jota and David Tavares, has found himself training with the Eagles’ second string, according to Record.
Tottenham have already signed one new right-back this summer, in Matt Doherty from Wolverhampton Wanderers, but further additions could be sought if Serge Aurier departs.
And a move for Tavares may be easier than it once was, considering his apparent desire to leave – not to mention Record‘s previous claim that Benfica are being forced to make two ‘big sales’ as a direct result of their failure to qualify for the Champions League group stage.
Tottenham have also been credited with an interest in the teenager’s Eagles teammate, Carlos Vinicius.
