Glasgow Rangers are fully aware that Giovani van Bronckhorst wants the job, the Athletic have reported.

Van Bronkhorst to Rangers?

Steven Gerrard only officially left Rangers yesterday to join Aston Villa, but already the search for his replacement at Ibrox is on.

It is claimed that after learning that Gerrard was leaving, Van Bronckhorst was quick to contact Rangers and tell them that he wanted the job.

The Light Blues apparently haven’t put a time scale on when they want their new boss appointed by, although they would prefer a quick process rather than an elongated one.

Van Bronckhorst’s desire to take over at Rangers could, therefore, really benefit the club.

Career so far

The 46-year-old Dutchman did play for Rangers so should know the club well if he was to takeover.

He has managed in two countries so far, although he has had rather different levels of success.

Van Bronckhorst won the Dutch title with Feyenoord, but his time in charge of Guangzhou in China was a disappointment.

The potential Rangers candidate won just seven of his 23 matches in charge before stepping down to be closer to his family.

Whoever takes over at Rangers will be under pressure to make an immediate impact.

Gerrard has raised expectations at Ibrox, after he led them to the league title last term.

Rangers are in a strong position to make it two first placed finishes in a row, as they currently sit four points clear at the top of the table.

But the Light Blues will need to get their next appointment right to minimise the impact of Gerrard’s departure.
