Cody Gakpo has reportedly spoken to Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag about potentially joining the Red Devils, with Arsenal also interested in signing the PSV Eindhoven star.

According to the Eindhoven Dagblad, the Eredivisie superstar has been in contact with the Dutch coach about a potential move to Old Trafford, with United now looking at signing Gakpo after being put off Ajax star Antony’s asking price this summer, with Arsenal also looking at the Netherlands international.

Recent reports have suggested that Gakpo can leave PSV this summer for £40m, with Arsenal just one of many reported top Premier League sides interested in signing the 23-year-old winger, though United now look like the strong favourites to land the forward following this latest update.

With the north London side also looking for a wide-attacker despite the strong start to the new season for Gabriel Martinelli, United could make a late assault to sign Gakpo this summer with the Red Devils in another full-blown crisis following their latest Premier League result.

Ten Hag’s side were embarrassed 4-0 in west London by Brentford, leaving United bottom of the Premier League table for the first time this century and leaving fans in a state of hysteria the likes of which the club have not seen in decades, and Gakpo could now be signed to help calm the masses.

Indeed, whilst Arsenal would be a more suitable and exciting project for Gakpo this summer, the winger making contact with Ten Hag seems to indicate that the attacker is keen to sign for United, and the forward could well be an unlikely saviour for the Manchester giants if a transfer is completed in the coming weeks.

Despite incredible success in pre-season, United’s wingers are once again faltering the club, with Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho yet to impress in the Premier League this campaign, yet Ten Hag beating Arsenal to Gakpo could solve this issue for the Red Devils.

The forward was last season one of the most productive wingers in Europe, and with an incredible eye for goal as well as a creative streak that will be loved by teammates, Gakpo could be an unlikely hero from the mist for United, much to the dismay of Arsenal, who could also be an incredible next destination for the Dutch star.
