According to Marca, Clement Lenglet doesn’t want to leave Barcelona, amid interest from Premier League duo Newcastle and Tottenham.

What’s the story?

Well, it was Gerard Moreno who revealed that Spurs want to sign Lenglet, whereas it was SPORT who claimed Newcastle had made contact.

Now, however, it seems Antonio Conte and Eddie Howe could find it difficult to lure the 15-cap France international to the Premier League.

Marca believe Lenglet wants to stay at Barcelona, as he feels he can resurrect his career in La Liga under Xavi.

The 26-year-old has been largely underwhelming since his £31.7m move from Sevilla in 2018.

However, Marca add that Barcelona might force him away from the Camp Nou, as they desperately need to sell players due to their bleak financial situation.

So far this season, the centre-back has made 13 appearances in all competitions, although he is far from being the first name on the teamsheet.

What would Newcastle and Tottenham be getting in Clement Lenglet?

While Lenglet has ultimately been underwhelming for the Spanish giants, he’s obviously a talented player, or else he wouldn’t have commanded a £31.7m fee.

The Frenchman is also often involved in the France setup, where Didier Deschamps can call upon some unbelievable defenders.

Stars such as Raphael Varane, Dayot Upamecano, Lucas Hernandez, Ibrahima Konate, Jules Kounde, Kurt Zouma and Samuel Umtiti are often involved as well, so Lenglet is in good company.

In our view, if it comes down to a choice between Newcastle or Tottenham, Lenglet would be a fool to choose the Magpies.

Under Conte, he could easily become one of the best in Europe, and helped Spurs return to the Champions League in doing so.
