Liverpool have some very stiff competition in the form of Manchester United and Chelsea in the race to sign Ibrahim Sangare.

In May, Dutch outlet VI reported that Liverpool had the PSV Eindhoven midfielder ‘firmly in their sights’.

However, Sky Sports have now reported that Manchester United and Chelsea are keen on the 24-year-old Ivory Coast international.

Sky claim that Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag knows the player well due to working in the Eredivisie in recent years, while Thomas Tuchel wants a long-term replacement for N’Golo Kante following an injury-hit campaign last time around.

You could make a case for all three Premier League outfits needing him.

And although Liverpool probably need him the least, due to having Fabinho, this is someone who Jurgen Klopp will be desperate to sign nonetheless.

For two reasons.

Firstly, Aurelien Tchouameni to Real Madrid is looking a certainty, meaning that’s one midfielder in the Fabinho mould who the German manager is set to miss out on.

But also, Sangare, who has a release clause of £30 million, destroyed the Liverpool powerhouse in a number of key areas last term.

Sky Sports included a graphic of Sangare’s Eredivisie stats in their piece, illustrating that the powerhouse made a total of 95 tackles throughout the 2021-22 campaign, along with 74 interceptions.

Fabinho, on the other hand, managed only 46 tackles and 40 interceptions [Premier League website].

Of course, the Eredivisie is different from the Premier League and not as intense.

And although you couldn’t argue Sangare is a better player than Fabinho, the statistics are very interesting all the same and you can see why Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea are reportedly keen.
