Earlier today, Norwich announced that they have activated their option to extend the contract of Todd Cantwell by a year, along with Teemu Pukki.
Now, this news will be of interest to Tottenham and Newcastle, and may potentially frustrate the Premier League duo.
What’s the story?
Well, back in January, Cantwell was said to be a target for Tottenham and Newcastle, having fallen out of favour at Norwich.
The 24-year-old’s contract was set to expire in June, meaning that he would be available for free when his loan spell at Bournemouth ended.
However, that is no longer the case, after the Canaries triggered their one-year option to extend his deal.
According to Norwich’s announcement, Bournemouth hold an option to buy the Dereham-born midfielder, but we doubt they will do so, as Cantwell has failed to provide a single goal involvement in ten Championship appearances.
Tottenham and Newcastle should ignore Todd Cantwell

In our view, Antonio Conte and Eddie Howe should opt against signing Cantwell.
After a breakthrough campaign in the 2019/20 season, in which he scored six Premier League goals, the England Under-21 international has lost his way.
Cantwell was axed from the matchday squad by Norwich on ten occasions before he was loaned to Bournemouth, where Scott Parker has left him on the bench in three of the last five Championship outings.

As a result, he can forget about a big move.
Cantwell has simply failed to kick on for whatever reason, and with each passing week, it seems he was just a mere flash in the pan.
